Stephen
Hues Biography

Stephen Hues has entertained and inspired audiences with his
high-octane, larger than life multi-media performances in Los Angeles,
Toronto, NYC, Montreal, Vancouver, Berlin, London and Black Rock City.
For the last two years Stephen has been an Ensemble member and Dance
Captain for LA Opera’s production of Wagner's complete 17 hour 'Ring
Cycle', Directed by the acclaim Berlin Artist, Achim Freyer. In the
summer of 2010 performances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion will be at
the center of the LA City wide ‘Ring Arts Festival’. In 2009 Stephen
choreographed the Pre-Inca Myth ‘PACHAMACA, Mother Earth’, Written
and Directed by Luis Avelos. Last year he also collaborated with Stilt
Circus and Jenn Berry to develop ‘Critical Sprout’, an Eco-Green
educational show. In 2008 Stephen taught 'Physical Theater' in Hollywood
and Echo Park for K-2nd and 3rd-5th grades as part of the After School
Arts Program ASAP, supported by LAUSD.
In 2007 Stephen choreographed
the World premiere children’s Opera, ‘Keepers of the Night’,
conducted by Grant Gershon and Directed by Corey Madden; starring 65
young singers from the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. In 2006 Stephen
choreographed the 1960’s iconic ‘American Tribal Love-Rock Musical,
HAIR’, directed by Robert A. Prior, Canadian Stage, Toronto. He has
collaborated often with Robert and the Fabulous Monsters to create large
scale spectacles from LA to Black Rock City to NYC. After 14
performances at the renowned La MaMa ETC, their work RAMAYANA 2K3
received 5 New York City Drama Desk Award Nominations, including
‘Outstanding Choreography’ and ‘Unique Theatrical Experience’
for the 2003-04 NYC season. Before relocating to Los Angeles, Stephen
lived in Montreal, Canada where he was a performer and Co-Artistic
Director of the gender bending, in your face Dance Theater company House
of Pride.
